Downtown transformation: ppp with caspar. in the UNESCO Old Town

The former vacant Karstadt “Haus B” building in Lübeck’s UNESCO-protected old town is being transformed into a “multifunctional center for education, culture, and social interaction.” The negotiation process for the conversion and reprogramming of the building was won by the Lübeck-based firm ppp in collaboration with caspar. We were particularly involved in the brainstorming process, the development of the usage concept, and the project presentation and communication. The “education center,” with a total gross floor area of approximately 9,500 m², is scheduled to open in 2028. It combines innovative ideas for working with existing buildings and in a specific urban context, for school and cultural architecture, for transport transformation, for inner-city transformation, for public life, and for urban repair, all in one and the same concept.
