On July 1 and 2, 2021, the City of Wiesbaden will be hosting a City Center Colloquium in the RheinMain CongressCenter (RMCC) under the banner #RevivalCity. Both days will be devoted to fresh ideas and concepts for revitalizing the city. Participants will include renowned international experts from trade, administration, and politics, as well as local city stakeholders offering best practices as inspiration. The focus will also be on exemplary projects and the change in citizens’ attitudes towards their own city centers and the facilities and “quality of stay” these centers provide.
Caspar Schmitz-Morkramer will also be among the invited speakers. On July 1 at around 2:45 p.m., he will be presenting the new lab report Retail in Transition – Verkaufswelten im Umbruch. Written from the perspective of an architect and urban planner, the report features a brief, systematic analysis and new insights supporting a return to humane and livable city centers in which retail trade also plays an important part.
Dr. Oliver Franz, Wiesbaden’s Mayor and Economic Affairs Officer, has already extended a welcome to all participants and explained the program of the City Center Colloquium: “We want to discuss the trends that will already be shaping city centers in the near future. To do so, we need to bring together the people who recommend and implement solutions. Many problems are not strictly local but affect most inner cities, so we need to discuss the role of the city center – with reference to the specific example of Wiesbaden, when appropriate – and combine global and local perspectives.”
